A husband who hides a bank account from you may be an affair sign. Before you jump to any conclusions you need to careful consider the reasons he wants to keep a separate account. It could be that your husband has debt from before the marriage he is trying to keep secret from you, or it may be that he wants to save money for something special and believes the money will be spent if it remains in a joint account. While many cheating men keep a bank account on the side to help facilitate their affairs you should consider the big picture before rushing to judgment.
In a survey by Cahoot.com which is an online bank in England they found approximately 75% of women admitted to hiding money, compared with 53% of men. From those figures you can see that hiding money from spouses is a common occurrence that may not necessarily indicate wrong doing. Many married partners have a don’t ask, don’t tell philosophy when it comes to money spent after paying the bills and household expenses.
However, the dark side of keeping a bank account hidden from you is it can be an indication of preparing for separation, or divorce. It can also help facilitate the ability to spend money on a lover via bank debit card without showing as a glaring red flag in your joint bank statement. Women who suspect a husband of keeping a bank account or credit card hidden often find evidence of it in the form of a bank statement. If you have located a statement it makes it much easier to determine if there have been purchases on the account that point infidelity.

A hidden bank account may indeed be a cheating sign but it may just as easily be a “rainy day” fund. I once read a story about a woman who had a large, secret stash of cash tucked away in one of her dresser drawers, unbeknownst to her husband. One day he lost his job and was utterly despondent (these were the days when EI didn’t exist).
Without batting an eyelash, his wife jumped up and left the room then came back carrying the wad of bills she’d been building for at least five years.
“It’s wonderful that you were fired honey! Now you can write that novel you’ve always wanted to write and we can live on our nest egg I’ve been building!”
How’s that for a helluva marriage?
